A short list of rules to follow for both chefs and diners.

Respectfulness: Always be respectful. Objectively bad behavior will not be tolerated.

The Diner is Always Right: The diner is always right. Try to appease the diner as much as possible. Happy customers are repeat customers. This rule is not applicable to disputes. If there is a dispute, a fair ruling will be concluded.

Honesty: Be honest and accurate in your descriptions. For Chefs, please do your best to list ingredients and allergens. For diners, please write honest reviews.

Communication: Communicate well.

Always Rate; Report When Necessary: Zestyer aims to provide the best experience possible. Rate every order you can, so others know what to expect. Report illicit content and users.

Account Help

How to create and manage your Zestyer account which contains both your chef and diner profiles.

What is Zestyer?

Zestyer is a marketplace for food. It's Uber for food. Zestyer lets you buy foods from other users as a 'diner' or sell foods to other users as a 'chef'. Both roles are managed through the same account, meaning you sign into one account and you get two profiles. Chefs post their culinary masterpieces to Zestyer and diners can then search through these foods, order, and enjoy delicious meals. Zestyer is completely cash free, meaning no awkward exchanges with anyone about cash or tips. Zestyer is the future of food.

Signing Up/Joining

To join Zestyer as either a diner or a chef, you need to fill out a quick form. Verifying Your Chef Profile

To post and sell foods on Zestyer, you need to verify your chef profile. To begin, login to your account. Then click on the first button from the right in the navigation bar at the top of the screen, as shown below. Clicking on any of the links in the resulting dropdown, will redirect you to the chef verification form if your profile is not already verified. You may also click this link to verify you chef profile. The chef profile cannot be verified unless the diner profile is activated. You will be redirected to the diner activation page if your diner profile is not activated. If this is the case, follow the steps above to activate it. Fill out the form and click "Verify", then consent to a background check. Both steps shown below. We understand if you have any reservations about providing personal information, so we've written about your data's security and the chef verification form in general here. This article is part of the Becoming a Chef Series, which can be found here. Read it to find out more about why and how to become a chef. Please note, that it is crucial that your photo ID pictures have all four corners visible and that all information is legible. Your photo ID must be valid and we reserve the right to ask for secondary ID if we suspect malpractice. The photo ID you provide must have a matching birthday as well as a first and last name as the verification form. This is simply for verification purposes. If you'd like to change your name later, you will have that option. The address may not match but we reserve the right to deny your verification request based on infeasible location changes. Please note, that to be a Zestyer chef you must be 18 years of age or older. When you fill in this form and submit it, a background check will be performed on you. You will receive an email once you are verified, or if you have been denied. You may appeal the denial and we will work with you to get you approved. Please do not be discouraged if a denial happens. Once verified, you may navigate through your chef profile using that chef dropdown button.

Order Statuses

A list of the statuses an order could be in and how to use the receipt to move the order along.

Terminology

Open Orders

An open order is an order that will require action in the future. All orders start opened and then become closed.

Closed Orders

A closed order is an order that will not require action in the future, but some actions may be performed. The food exchange has either happened or will never happen and the money exchange has happened or will never happen. A closed order is sometimes tippable. Whenever an order becomes closed, every party involved should stop any work on the order including preparation, exchange or payment for the order.

Authorize Payment

When a diner authorizes payment for an order it means the diner authorizes the funds charged to his/her card to be released from Zestyer's possession to the chef. A diner is charged whenever an order is confirmed but Zestyer will hold these funds. Authorizing payment for an order by the diner means the chef has completed his role and the diner is satisfied with the service. Disputes can only be filed before the diner authorizes payment. Learn more about disputes below.

Receipt

All orders, with the exception of requested, canceled, denied and erred orders, have receipts. A user may access the receipt as either a chef or a diner depending on what role he/she plays in the order. To access the receipt you need to find the order card in the correct tab of the main chef/diner page and then click "Receipt". Learn more about the main chef page below. Learn more about the main diner page above. Receipts give all the information about an order. They are where the majority of actions are performed and where Zestyer Chat is available.

Actions & Timeline

Order Status/The Life Cycle of Orders

Requested - Open Order

This status is how an order originates after a diner clicks "Order" from the order food page. Learn more about ordering foods above. A request, or requested order, does not have a receipt yet. A chef is given 5 minutes to confirm an order before it is automatically denied.

Canceled - Closed Order

A diner may choose to cancel a request. This will void the order and prevent any charge on a diner's card. Canceling an order can only be done while the order is in the requested state. A canceled order does not have a receipt and will be archived to free up space after a chef or diner sees it/silences the alert. Learn more about alerts above.

Denied - Closed Order

A chef may choose to deny the order. This will void the order and prevent any charge on a diner's card. Denying an order can only be done while the order is in the requested state. A denied order does not have a receipt and will be archived to free up space after a chef or diner sees it/silences the alert. Learn more about alerts above.

Confirmed - Open Order

When a chef confirms an order, a receipt is created for the order. The chef must also provide an estimate for when the food will be ready. A chef has within 1 hour after the estimate to move the order to the next status otherwise the chef will be late and the order will be closed. The diner's card is charged when an order is confirmed. If payment for this order needs to be canceled the diner will be refunded. The funds will be held until the diner authorizes their release.

Ready for Pick Up - Open Order

When a chef finishes preparing an order, he/she ready's the order, meaning it is either ready for pick up or out for delivery depending on what the order specified. If the order is pick up, a diner has within 3 hours after the estimated time to pick up the order and "Mark [the] Exchange and Pay". Otherwise the diner will be considered late and will not be able to rate the order. If a diner does not pay or dispute the order within 24 hours of the estimated pick up time, the chef will be autopaid, meaning Zestyer will authorize the release of funds on the diner's behalf.

When a chef finishes preparing an order, he/she ready's the food. Meaning it is either ready for pick up or out for delivery depending on what the order specified. A chef has within 1 hour of the estimated delivery time to exchange the food. Otherwise the chef will be considered late and the order will be closed.

Exchanged - Open Order

This status occurs only when the order is being delivered. This means that the chef has dropped off the order at whatever address was specified. Chefs must take every opportunity to hand the order directly to the diner, but are not obligated to. A diner has within 3 hours after the exchange to pay for the order. Otherwise the diner will be considered late and will not be able to rate the order. If a diner does not pay or dispute the order within 24 hours of the exchange time, the chef will be autopaid, meaning Zestyer will authorize the release of funds on the diner's behalf.

Disputed - Open Order

A diner may choose to dispute the order when it is in the ready for pick up state or in the exchanged state, meaning the status right before authorizing payment. Opening a dispute case means the diner felt wronged by the chef and would like a refund.

When to Dispute

• If the food is ill prepared or undercooked.

• If the food has inedible objects in it.

• If the chef did not exchange food.

• If the foods of the order were not close to what was advertised in their respective listing.

• If the order was not adequately packaged.

• If the special request was approved by the chef but not fulfilled.

Please document any pertinent information so Zestyer may resolve this matter fairly. A dispute may take up to 6 weeks to settle and will be settled through the login emails of the chef and diner.

When not to Dispute

• If the food is not up to the diner's taste standards

• If the chef was rude.

Chef Duties

Chefs are expected to prepare the food exactly as advertised in a listing, if they confirm it. All foods must come properly packaged. This means they need to be in either a sealed container or in a container covered on the bottom and top in an appropriate manner. Chefs are solely responsible for proper packaging. This means the food must be provided in a fitting container. Chefs are not responsible for providing cutlery, spices, or sauces, unless those items are explicitly stated as an option or food in the order. If proper packaging is not supplied, the resulting dispute will be won by the diner. Chefs should be as polite and courteous as possible.

Diner Duties

Diners are expected to be able, willing and have intention to pay whenever they place an order. If it is confirmed, the diner is obligated to pay for the order. Diners should be as polite and courteous as possible.

An order is autopaid when a diner takes too long to take action after a chef reports to Zestyer that the order is ready. This is part of the protection Zestyer provides for its users. Read the full article about Zestyer protection as well as when an order is autopaid here.

Paid - Closed Order

An order is paid when the diner has paid for the order in a timely manner. When an order is paid, the funds are released from Zestyer to the chef. The diner may choose to rate and tip the chef. If the diner enjoyed the food, and thinks the chef deserves a tip, a diner may do so on the receipt. You may leave a rating about the order on the receipt or in the unrated orders tab on the main diner page. Learn about the main diner page above. Learn about ratings below. Ratings

This section will appear for diners when an order is ratable.

A rating is designed to be anonymous. The only information provided to the public by Zestyer is the time of the rating. Meaning when the diner clicks the "Submit Rating" button, the food that was ordered, the name of the diner, and any other information about the order is kept private and out of public access. The chef will not be given any indication that you left a rating. The chef will however know the time you left the rating, meaning the chef would know you ordered before that time.

Parts

A rating has seven parts, five 5-star ratings and two comments. The five 5-star ratings determine the overall rating of the order. The overall rating places different weights on the individual 5 star ratings. The weights and description of the ratings are as follows.

1.5x - Taste Rating

How did the food taste? Was the bread soggy? Was the meat cooked as expected? Was the dish as described? This should be the harshest rating. Please do not be generous, be objective. We want future diners to know what they are buying.

1.25x - Quality Rating

Were the ingredients fresh/as described? Could you tell ingredients were frozen? Was there some spoiled ingredients? This should be the second harshest rating. Please do not be generous, be objective. We want future diners to know what they are buying.

0.5x - Speed Rating

Was the food delivered in a timely manner? This should be a very objective rating and easy to get 5 stars in. If the estimates the chef gave were correct then the chef has earned 5 stars.

0.75x - Value Rating

Was there enough food? Did it match what was described? This should be a very objective rating and easy to get 5 stars in. If the food is as described then the chef has earned 5 stars.

1.0x - Healthiness Rating

Was the food as healthy as it could be? If you ordered something fried, was it fried a reasonable amount? Was there excessive oil used? The food does not necessarily need to be healthy, just the manner it was prepared needs to be as healthy as it could be. This should be the third harshest rating. Please do not be generous, be objective. We want future diners to know what they are buying. This rating should also take into account the cleanliness of the food. If the vegetables were not washed or the some unsanitary item was found in the food, please lower this rating. However, if some egregious offense was committed by the chef, rendering it inedible, please do not pay for the order. Dispute an order like this. Learn more about disputes above.

Comments

The two comment sections allow you to describe your experience and other thoughts. These are optional.

Chef Ratings

The overall ratings box that appears on the ratings tab of the public chef profile, is an running average of all the ratings the chef received. Creating & Editing Foods

How to create and edit your menu.

Create A Menu Item

A chef can post a food (create a menu item) by clicking the chef dropdown and then clicking "List An Item", or by going to the menu tab on the main chef page and clicking "Create Menu Item". You may also click here to create a menu item. On the create foods page, you can create menu items. You have the option to create a food or a deal. Both foods and deals have common settings. The next three sections will cover the common settings, the settings unique to foods and the settings unique to deals in that order. No matter which type of menu item you are creating, filling out as much information as possible will rank you higher in search. Learn more about the search here.

Common Settings

Average Time To Prepare

This is an estimate of how long an item will take to prepare. This is used to give the diner an estimate of how long he/she will wait as well as set a limit to how long you can set the estimated ready time to be when confirming orders. Read more about average time to prepare above.

Tags

Each type of menu item can have a maximum of 6 tags attached to it. These tags will be used to rank the food in search. Learn more about what tags do in the search article, here.

Ordering

This section identifies when and how a menu item is to be ordered.

Delivery

You can enable delivery on your chef profile and disable it for some foods. This is designed for foods that are hard to deliver. You will not be able to enable delivery on a food unless, you have delivery enabled on your chef profile through the edit chef profile on the main chef page. Learn more the main chef page above.

Item Availability Range

These are the hours of the day that a item can be ordered. For example, breakfast items can be set to be available only in the morning.

Days Available

These are the days on which the item will be orderable. So for a menu item to be "Available to Order" and show up in search, the current day needs to be one of the "Days Available" and the current time needs to be within the "Item Availability Range".

Ordering Limits

There are two ways to limit when a menu item can be ordered.

Servings

If you have limited ingredients, you can set how many of a particular item can be ordered. Every time an order is completed with that item, the servings will decrease by a certain amount.

Calendar Limit

If you would like to sell an item for a limited time, you can set calendar limits. The food will then only be "Available to Order", if the current date is within the "Calendar Limits".

Setting Unique to Foods

Pictures

Pictures are designed to give a diner a visual representation of the food before they order. At least one picture is required for every food and the more you include the better your food will rank. Learn more about the Zestyer search here.

Description

A short description of what the food is and perhaps how it's prepared.

Meal Time

What meal the food is supposed to be enjoyed as. Either breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner.

Dish Type

What type of dish the food should be served as. Either appetizer, entree, dessert, snack, or drink.

Food Name

The name of the food.

Food Calories (Optional)

This information is optional. How many calories the food has. If there are customizations, how many calories the most basic food has.

Food Nutrition Facts(Optional)

The nutrition facts, meaning the fats, carbohydrates, and protein. All three need to be included for the food to be validated. If there are customizations, list the nutrition facts of the most basic food.

Food Ingredients (Optional)

Please fill out the ingredients the food uses. This helps diners understand how the food is made and identifies any allergies.

Allergies

Use this setting to alert diners to common allergens. If you cannot find an allergen, please list it in the ingredients.

Customizations & Pricing

In this section you price out your food. Food can also be customized with extra options.

Base Price

The price the food starts at. How much will you earn for selling one servings of this food.

Customizations

Customizations allow a diner to customize their order. A chef can make a customization optional or required. Required customizations are ones that cannot be avoided. For example choose a sauce to go on your pizza. Optional customizations can be avoided like toppings on a pizza. You can add a customization by clicking the plus sign. Then you name the customization and add options to it. Options are named and have an associated price. In the case of toppings, the customization name would be "Topping 1" and it would be optional. The options would be something like "Sausage" for "1.00", "Pepperoni" for "1.00", and so on. To remove a customization, click the red cross near the customization. All customizations need to have a name and at least one option. Otherwise the food will not be validated.

Setting Unique to Deals

A deal is a menu item that combines two foods and sells them at some sort of discount.

Description

Deal Name

The name of the deal.

Food 1

The first food in the deal. This should be the main food. For example if you're selling an entree with a dessert, this should be the entree. Once selected, the food will show up in the box.

Food 2

The secondary food.

Deal Type

You select how the discount will work on this deal.

Price Discount

This will remove a certain amount of dollars from the food price. This is just a constant to be removed. If a food costs $10.00 and the deal removes $1.00 the total price is $9.00. If the food is customized to cost $12.00, the total price will be $11.00.

Percent Discount

This removes a certain percentage. If you give a 10% discount on $10.00 the food will cost $9.00. If you customize the food to cost $12.00, the food will cost $10.80.

Constant Price

This will make the deal cost a constant amount regardless of customizations or anything else. So a food customized to $12.00 from $10.00 will cost the constant price.

Zestyer Fees & Taxes

What fees diners and chefs are charged, as well as how to pay taxes on your earnings.

Order Fees

Zestyer collects processing fees on each order. The fee structure for a diner is outlined below. Tips and bribes are separate transactions and therefore are subject to this same fee structure independent of order fees. Zestyer adds $2.00 for the first $10.00 of an order. Zestyer adds 10% of any additional amount over $10.00. The following formula summarizes fee structure. In the event of a full refund, meaning the order is closed, canceled, denied, or erred the processing fee is also refunded. Processing fees may be reduced to cost conditional on having sufficient volume and presence. Contact Lisa, at lisadion@zestyer.com, for more information.

Chef Fees

Zestyer collects a monthly fee from every active chef. This fee is $2.00 and is taken before any payouts are made to the chef every month. If a chef does not receive payment in a certain month this fee is not collected as the chef is not active.

Taxes

Zestyer needs to comply to US tax policy. Your Social Security Number is required at verification for this reason. 1099-K tax forms will be sent to your login email when you complete more than 200 orders and make more than $20,000. This form will have all the information needed to file your taxes correctly. If Zestyer does not have enough information to create your 1099-K form, we will email, call, or mail requests to you.
